HUDSON-ATHENS LIGHTHOUSE
2023 SUMMER EVENTS

For up to date information and postings please visit our Facebook Page: Hudson-Athens Lighthouse.

We have created a petition to gather signatures from the community and everyone who loves the Athens-Hudson Lighthouse.
This is in line with HALPS' efforts to secure $7.5M in federal funding to rebuild and strengthen the underwater foundation of the
Hudson-Athens lighthouse.

The signed petition will be submitted to the legislators as a show of support and also, as a reminder to our elected officials of their pledges.
We want to gather as many signatures as we can so we can expand awareness and gain more attention.

Please click https://www.change.org/SaveHudsonAthensLighthouse to sign the petition and share the link with friends and family.

For ticket reservations, please visit https://www.hudsonferry.co/tickets. Many new tours have been added to the website, including tours around Middle Ground Flats, the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, sunset cruises, fall foliage and sightseeing cruises.

The tour offers an opportunity to learn about the important role that the Hudson River played in the development of the upper Hudson River towns and the role that the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse plays in the safe navigation of river transportation. Visitors can go back in time and see how the lightkeepers and their families lived in the middle of the Hudson River, how they made their meals, how the kids went to school, and weathered the toughest winters!

The whole tour lasts for about 1.5 hours, giving visitors time to explore and go to the top of the Beacon to get a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Hudson River. Watch the video on Hudson River history narrated by Emily Brunner, who lived in the lighthouse as a child and participated in tours until her early 90s. Visitors can also see a video of the early founders of HALPS and the initial restoration of the lighthouse. Videos run on a continual loop and can be joined at any time.

See the letter from the US Lighthouse Service appointing Emil Brunner to his post at the Hudson-Athens light in 1930 and read some of the duties required of a lighthouse keeper. Children can ring the newer fog bell, and picnic tables are provided for those who want to bring lunch or just sit and enjoy the surroundings. Visitors may be surprised by cargo ships on their way to the Port of Albany, a lost harbor seal, a nesting bald eagle, a fisher climbing a tree on shore, casual fishermen, kayakers, paddle boarders, or even a deer swimming from Middle Ground Flats to shore.

Reservations are strongly encouraged and may be made online at https://www.hudsonferry.co/tickets or by calling 518-945-8184. Walk-ins will be accepted on a space-available basis. Payment may be in cash or online on one's phone at that time with the tour operator.

Adults are $30, seniors 65+ and members $27, children aged 15 and under $20, and infants 2 and under are free. Please stop at the HALPS table on your way to the boat.

The use of the lighthouse for private and public tours and events is one of the many ways the Lighthouse Preservation Society raises money to pay for the preservation of the Lighthouse, which is owned solely by the Preservation Society. Please visit the membership page to learn how to become a member.

The lighthouse has been used for weddings, birthdays, reunions, and private parties. Contact events@halps.org.

Thank you for your support.
